Spring is in the air and so are the swarms. What is a beekeeper to do?

A swarm is nature's way of splitting a hive. Roughly two-thirds of the worker bees and the queen leave for greener pastures. Is it desirable? No! Your colony is left depleted of bees and vulnerable. Is it preventable? Yes! Join us for our monthly meeting as Jaime Guoz illustrates how to determine if your bees are getting ready to swarm and what you can do to convince them to stay put. As our immediate past president and former sanctuary manager, Jaime is also one of the club's go-to bee resuers. Jaime has rescued hundreds of bee swarms over the years.

Our Honey of the Month comes courtesy of new member Elizabeth Holdmann. Thank you, Elizabeth, and welcome to the club!

ROAD CLOSURE: As of this writing, Callifornia Avenue is closed from above 28th Street (just north of EDCO.) and scheduled to reopen July 8.  California Avenue is open below 28th Street and accessible from Willow Street. If you are north of 28th Street, take the scenic route.

Long Beach Beekeepers meet on the first Sunday of the month and welcome everyone from the experienced to the novice beekeeper to those just curious about beekeeping. The in-person meeting is open to the general public. Members who opt to attend online will be emailed the meeting link and passcode.

Special thanks to EDCO Recycling & Transfer for hosting our meetings.
