Beekeeping 101Long Beach Beekeepers offers Beekeeping 101 as an introduction to beekeeping. Classes are held February through December on the first Saturday and the third Sunday of the month. Classes include instruction, discussions and suiting up for hive inspections. Class schedule impacted by weather conditions or community garden events on occasion. No experience required. Class provided free of charge and protective gear provided. See our Events page for updates and to register. Class size limited. | Bee PreparedBee Prepared is a beekeeping course offered to turn a beginner into a backyard beekeeper. It includes hands-on experience inspecting hives under the tutelage of experienced beekeepers. Instruction delivered through three in-person meetings and two online sessions. Topics include hive management; bee biology; recognizing and treating common diseases and predators; and legal requirements. The fee is $80 for members and $105 for non-members. Past offerings included assembling bee boxes; re-wiring frames; bee rescue; installing bee packages; requeening; honey processing; honey tasting; mead making; building a solar wax melter; and making products using beeswax.
