Most beekeepers prefer to keep honey bees in managed hives, but bees are not always too particular about where they make their home. Bees have set up shop in water meters, compost bins, tree hollows, outdoor speakers, garden statues, barbecue grills, and even old tires.

Long Beach Beekeepers is looking for beekeepers to help us move rescued bees at the Willow Springs Bee Sanctuary into proper hive boxes as well as inspect the existing colonies.

The Willow Springs Bee Sanctuary provides a temporary oasis for swarms while we search for the bees' forever home with a qualified beekeeper. Members may also bring their hives to the sanctuary on a temporary basis when home repairs necessitate a bee-free yard.

Beekeeping suits and gloves required. Drinking water recommended.
