Bee Prepared - Beekeeping Class - March 2023

This course provides the instruction and hands-on experience to turn a beginner into a confident backyard beekeeper. Topics include hive management, bee biology, recognizing and treating common diseases and predators, and legal requirements of keeping bees in Long Beach.

After completing the course successfully and at the club's discretion, participants are eligible to receive a starter bee colony when available at no additional cost. Frames and other hive equipment are not included. 

There will be an in-person group class on Saturday, March 18, from 9-11AM at our Willow-Springs Bee Sanctuary and two online classes on Tuesdays March 14 and 21, 7-9PM. The class also includes one 2-hour in-person mentoring session working in hives with an experienced beekeeper on a Saturday or Sunday morning, second half of March (dates TBD). NOTE: each person will need their own beekeeping suit, gloves, hive tool, and smoker for the mentoring session.
