Our training philosophy teaches various methods and styles of beekeeping – including Langstroth and top bar hives, natural beekeeping and supplemental feeding – while advocating only responsible beekeeping.

While we observe Safer at Home guidelines, Facebook Live sessions will stand in for our in-person classes. Check out our Long Beach Beekeepers group page Saturdays at 9AM.
Long Beach Beekeepers offers Beekeeping 101 which provides and introduction to beekeeping for beginners. Classes are held February through December on the first Saturday of the month from 8 AM–9:30 AM. Classes include instruction, discussions, and suiting up to inspect our hive. Class schedule occasionally impacted by weather conditions or other events at the garden.
Bee Prepared is a 12-hour course offered in the Spring designed to turn the novice beekeeper into a backyard beekeeper. Includes classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Topics include hive management; bee biology; recognizing and treating common diseases and predators; and legal requirements.
After completing the course successfully, students are eligible to receive a starter bee colony at no additional cost. Bees are subject to availability. Frames and other hive equipment not included.
$80 for members; $100 for non-members.
